Who can enter?

The competition is intended for those currently undertaking a relevant programme of study, but is also open to those who have completed initial or advanced glass training in the last five years. Employees and apprentices working in a glass studio are also eligible. The competition is open to the following level:

Open: this level of entry takes into account the fact that many sectors do not recruit from particular types and levels of qualifications.

About the competition

This competition gives competitors an opportunity to work to a design brief based upon a real location. A commission may be awarded to a competition entrant at the discretion of the sponsor. You will need to make a site visit, plan and submit work to a deadline, as would be expected of a professional architectural glass artist. The entries will be judged by a panel of five professional glass artists and designers.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Scale design
  • Written statement
  • Sample panel
  • Budget / estimate

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010

Stage two: site visit (November to February) to view the location of the window at Churchill College, Cambridge

Stage three: submit entry of design and sample panel by 9 April 2010

Stage four: attend seminar / prizegiving on 4 May 2010

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can be entered. One submission per entry.

This competition is called The Stevens competition and is organised by The Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Churchill College, Cambridge University in association with Proskills.
