Who can enter?

This competition is intended for those undertaking a relevant vocational or academic programme of study in environmental science. The competition is open to the following level:

Advanced: those undertaking qualifications up to level 2 or up to two years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

The competition is intended to raise skills and awareness in the science and engineering disciplines required to solve complex socio-economic issues. This includes climate change and the shortage of essential resources including water and energy.

Competitors will be expected to analyse scientific information and data and to provide a report, construction and presentation that includes a scheme for small-scale energy production.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Teamworking skills
  • Time management skills
  • Strategic thinking
  • Technical knowledge, understanding and application
  • Research skills
  • Communication skills

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010.
Stage two: Applicants will be selected to go forward to the UK final in Wales on the basis of a passive heat.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

Thee competitors per team, no more than three teams per organisation.
