Heating and Ventilation
 

Who can enter?

This competition is open to candidates employed in the heating and ventilating industry, who have a current H&V S/NVQ level 2 qualification and are working towards (or completed) a
S/NVQ level 3 in industrial and commercial heating. They will also need to have relevant skills and qualifications in pipe welding using either metal arc or oxy-acetylene welding equipment. The competition is open to the following level:

Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

Competitors will undertake a series of practical tests based on the workplace which will demonstrate their abilities and highlight their outstanding skills in the heating and ventilating industry.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Working safely
  • Testing of pipework (hydraulic test to industry standards)
  • Dimensional accuracy (measuring and marking out)
  • Economical use of resources (materials and fittings, etc.)
  • Bend and joint quality – pipework plumb and level

Competition structure

Stage one: colleges and employers identify suitable candidates and register their entries to Summit Skills by the end of March 2010.
Stage two: candidates will be invited to participate in a two-day regional heat (Spring/Summer 2010).
Stage three: highest scoring competitors meeting the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.
