Who can enter?
This competition is open to candidates employed in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, who have achieved at least a current RAC S/NVQ level 2 qualification. The competition is open to the following level:
Advanced: those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.
About the competition
Competitors will undertake a series of practical tests based on the workplace which will demonstrate their abilities and highlight their outstanding skills in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.
The competition tests performance in a selection of tasks from a refrigeration and air conditioning engineer job role. These tasks include planning and installing:
- split air conditioning units
- commercial cold room and associated components
- electrical RAC wiring systems
Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Interpreting drawings and plans
- Installing and testing RAC systems and components
- Brazing copper pipework to industrial standards
- Safe handling with refrigerants (commissioning and de-commissioning)
- Economical use of materials
- Effective Health and Safety
Competition structure
Stage one: colleges, centres and employers identify suitable competitors and register entries by March 2010.
Stage two: candidates will be invited to participate in regional skills competition events (Spring/Summer 2010)
Stage three: highest scoring competitors meeting the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.
How many competitors can enter from each organisation?
One competitor per organisation.
