Who can enter?

This competition is intended for those working or training in the construction industry. Each competition can be entered by apprentices and those on full-time courses that lead to technical certificates. The competition is open to the followin levels:

Intermediate: those undertaking qualifications up to level 2 or up to three years experience in a working environment.

Advanced: those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

Competitors will undertake a series of practical tests based on the workplace which will demonstrate their abilities and highlight their outstanding skills in the cabinet making industry.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Use of different types of hardwood timbers
  • Correct joints
  • Accurate measurements
All trainees will be expected to be able to follow drawing, measure accurately, effectively plan their time, demonstrate competence with tools and keep work stations clean and tidy.
 

Competition structure:

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010

Stage two: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the SkillBuild 2010 UK final over a three day national event in September 2010.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can be entered.
