Who can enter?

This competition is intended for those working or training in the construction industry. Each competition can be entered by apprentices and those on full-time courses that lead to technical certificates. The competitions are open to the following levels:

Intermediate: those undertaking qualifications up to level 2 or up to three years experience in a working environment.

Advanced: those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

Competitors will undertake a series of practical tests based on the workplace which will demonstrate their abilities and highlight their outstanding skills in the plastering industry.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Measuring and marking out
  • Working from detailed drawings
  • Planning and setting out work
  • Mixing materials
  • Leaving work flat and level
  • Working with a range of materials

Competition structure

Stage one: SkillBuild 2010 heats - 16 competition heats take place across the UK. Enter online by 19 March 2010.

Competitors have to complete a specific project designed to challenge their ability to follow detailed instructions, produce accurate and neat work outputs, be economical with materials while working to strict timescales - all essential requirements for today's construction industry.

Stage two: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the SkillBuild 2010 UK final over a three day national event in September 2010.

In the spirit of SkillBuild, the national final is an opportunity for all involved to celebrate excellent in construction training.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can be entered.
