Who can enter?

The competition is intended for technicians with up to three years experience in training and/or a working environment.

About the competition

Panel technicians should have a sound theoretcial knowledge of body repair operations as well as good practical skills. They should also have a thorough understanding of modern car construction and materials. With the development of new car technology, keeping up-to-date with changing repair processes and equipment has never been so critical. The competition is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) for body repair.

The different assessments include damage alignment diagnosis, MIG welding to BSI Standards, spot welding to BSI Standards 1mm, rectification of panel damage and panel removal, and replacement procedures for both bolted and welded panels.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Damage correction
  • Replacements
  • Panel, plastic repair
  • Electrical diagnosis

Stage one: enter online at www.skillauto.co.uk
Stage two: complete an online test containing body repair technology related questions.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors are invited to compete in a heat during March/April 2010.
Stage four: highest scoring competitors from all heats are invited to the UK final.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can enter from any one organisation.
