Who can enter?

This competition is intended for technicians with up to three years experience in training and/or a working environment.

About the competition

The competition provides an exciting opportunity for individuals to demonstrate their problem solving, time management and planning skills, whilst displaying their technical skills. The competition is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS).

The competition will consist primarily of practical tasks including preparation, priming and flatting procedures, preparation and painting of plastics, sealing techniques, colour identification and mixing, and preparation and application of wet-on-wet paint processes and masking techniques.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Preparation and application of undercoats
  • Application of basecoat
  • Application of clearcoat and solid colours
  • Sealing techniques for new panels
  • Basic colour matching

At the national final competition successful candidates will be assessed on any of the above skills plus some simple meausing and application of decals.

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online at www.skillauto.co.uk
Stage two: complete an online test containing painting technology related questions.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors are invited to compete in a heat during March/April 2010.
Stage four: highest scoring competitors from all heats are invited to the UK final.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can enter from any one organisation.
