Who can enter?

The competition is intended for a team of two competitors working and/or training towards relevant programmes of study in mechatronics. Competitors can be in education and training or working in industry. The competition is open to the following levels:

Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

Higher: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 7 or up to seven years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

The Mechatronics competition will provide you with an invaluable opportunity to test your technical skills nationally against others to promote excellence at this level.

The two day practical competition will test your logic, design and fault finding skills in a challenging environment. Competitors are expected to apply their theoretical knowledge of fundamental principles, automation, pneumatic, electrical/electronic and PLC technologies.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Designing, building and testing pneumatic, electrical circuits and PLC programmes for sequential and non sequential tasks
  • Mechanically assembling a given set of components to a specification
  • Electro-pneumatic circuit simulation
  • Adding new functionality and operations on a given application

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010.
Stage two: submit screening test per team by 19 March 2010.
Stage three: teams that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

Two competitors per team, there are no restrictions on the number of entries per organisation.
