Who can enter?

The competition is intended for a team of two competitors working and/or training towards relevant programmes of study in mobile robotics. Competitors can be in education and training or working in industry. The competition is open to the following levels:

Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

Higher: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 7 or up to seven years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

The competition takes place over two days and consists of programming a FESTO Robotino® and constructing a robot to undertake a range of challenging tasks.

Competitors must be able to use the FESTO Robotino® mobile robot to:

  • solve practical operational problems
  • carry out mobile robot system design
  • assemble a mobile robot according to the manufacturer’s specifications
  • design a control program
  • connect a mobile robot to its control system
  • commission a mobile robot to carry out its correct function
  • interpret hard copy/electrical forms from manufacturer’s documents

Robotino's are available on loan to organisations on a long term basis providing the organisation guarantees to send competitors to the mobile robotics competition each year.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Team working
  • Time management
  • Designing, building and testing mobile robots
  • Electronic circuit building, testing and analysis
  • Programming language

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010
Stage two: submit screening form by 19 March 2010
Stage three: teams that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

Two competitors per team, there are no restrictions on the number of entries per organisation.
