Who can enter?

The CNC milling and turning competitions are intended for technicians working or training in CNC Milling or Turning. The competitions are open to the following level:

Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

The CNC milling and turning competitions are two separate competitions that prepare you for industry by putting you in the role of the CNC machinist. Competitors will work to a set brief and use CNC machine tools to cut, drill, shape and finish products and components used in engineering and manufacturing.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Manufacturing components
  • Selecting and setting the appropriate holding devices and tooling
  • Reading engineering drawings and converting these into machining programmes

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010

Stage two: download the turning competition brief from the WorldSkills UK website and submit your work for judging to UK Skills by 14 May 2010.

Stage three: all submissions of work will be judged and the highest scoring competitors that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

Up to three competitors per organisation.
