Who can enter?

The competition is intended for those training or working as hairdressers. Competitors can be in education and training or working in industry. The competition is open to the following levels:

Intermediate: those undertaking qualifications up to level 2 or up to 3 years experience in a working environment

Advanced: those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 or up to five years experience in a working environment.

About the competition

At each level the competition will comprise of two tasks that represent the role of an Afro-Caribbean hairdresser. Each task will offer scope for creativity as well as technique and good working practice. Live models will be used.

Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Cut
  • Colour
  • Finish
  • Total look
  • Compliance with instructions
  • Good working practice

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010.
Stage two: competitors will be invited to participate in a live heat.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.

How many competitors can enter from each organisation?

Up to three competitors per level, per organisation.
